The universe has no single age. Two methods disagree. Planck's early-universe reading gives 13.8 billion years, and the gap holds at nine percent. The telescope method, from Hubble and JWST, points younger, near 12.6 billion years, and the gap collapses to about half a percent.

In plainer terms

Out here, precision is rare. Many cosmic quantities, the atom count among them, are only pinned to within tens of percent, often a third or more. Against margins like that, two unrelated numbers agreeing this closely is the striking part. Picture aiming from Earth at the centre of the Sun, 150 million km away. Planck's age still leaves you about 13 million km wide of centre. The telescope age brings you within a single solar radius, grazing the surface of the Sun itself. That is enough. That is the point. Curiosity, not certainty.
